Living in Italy
When we were shopping recently I found a book called Living in Italy. I thought it would be a good way to learn about the country:
Ciao! Italy is in Europe where 60 million people live. Italy is shaped as a boot as you may know and if you didn't you learned something! The boot is kicking 2 of Italy's Islands Sicily and Sardinia. Sicily is where over 5 million people live. It is the biggest Island in the Mediterranean. Sardinia is known for it's beach's and many amazing mountains. Italy is has 20 regions, people in different regions celebrate and wear different things.Venice is the city of Gondolas. Gondolas are passed down from father to son . It is a huge honor to get your fathers. In Venice you either walk or spend a lot of money on a Gondola ride, that's right there are no streets for cars to drive on just people. Pizza was first made in Naples. The pizza was called the Neapolitan pizza and uses very specific ingredients. Milan is Italy's fashion capital. 4 times a year Milan has a fashion week for designers. Florence on the other hand is the city of art and architecture. It has amazing art everywhere and most of the building were built in the 1600's.Rome is the capital of Italy are personally my favorite region. I tend to walk 2-5 miles a day in Rome keep in mind I also eat Gelato once or twice a day. Now for a little history of Italy. Around 700 BCE the Etruscans built cities. The Etruscans were sailors, craftspeople and warriors. But in 509 BCE it gets a lot more interesting. 509 BCE is when the people of Rome overthrew the king and the people of Rome defeated the Etruscans. This is the the Roman Empire era! The Roman Empire was unstopable. The Roman Empire was so big it went from England to Africa. But sadly the Roman Empire was defeated by the Barbarians in 476 CE. Adter the Roman Empire was defeated all of Italy was split into "states" which were little countries. Bigger countries tried to fight over these little states for hundreds of years to come. In the middle of the 1700's France defeated city/states and passed along there ideas about being loyal to Italy. When thee French left Italy in 1814 Italy kept there ideas and tried to make them into reality. The Italians also wanted to reunited there country. In 1861 the Country of Italy was born. By 1871 all the regions that we have heard of in Italy like Rome, Tuscany, Naples etc. had become part of Italy in 1871. Italy loves music it is the Birthplace of Opera, Violin and the piano. Many Inventors came from Italy. For example: Gulielmo Marconi invented the radio and Alessandro Volta created the first ever batteries. Here is one more the Dominican friar Giordiano da Pisa created eyeglasses in 1290! As you can see Italy has made things that we use almost every single day. In Italy every family likes to eat with each other at least once a day. For dinner they usual have pasta and meat that is cooked in a creamy sauce. Population: 61 million people. Capital: Rome. Total Area: 116,348 square miles. Currency: Euro. Italy has the most UNESCO world heritage sites of any country in the whole entire world! Each site is preserved like jam and is heavily protected. Here are some of the World heritage sites: Dolomite Mountains, The city of Venice and 2 Etruscan cemiteries in Lazio. Flag: Three equal stripes of green, white and red , commonly called the Tricolore which means Tricolor, or contains 3 colors.
