When we were in Florence, Italy we saw a lot of Pinocchio's. That made me curious. Why is Pinocchio so popular in Florence?
What I found out is that the person who carved Pinocchio, whose name is Geppetto, lived in a village near Florence. "The Adventures of Pinocchio" was a novel published by Carlo Collodi in 1888. Disney made Pinocchio into an animated film in 1940 and in 2000 it is a television musical It is a story about very poor man (Geppetto) who gets a magical block of wood from a man named Antonio who was going to turn it into a table leg but instead gave it to Geppetto to carve into a marionette puppet.
