How to dress like a local

Being accepted in a country is a big deal. Wearing the right clothes, being respectful and saying the right things plus there are many more things to learn when you travel. For this blog, I am just going to talk about how to dress like a local. A big part about it is understanding why they wear something or why they have their hair cut in a certain way.

One of the things that I learned when we visited the Amish area of Pennsylvania is that if an Amish woman is wearing a black hat on her head it means she is married.

In Oman, if you see a man in a certain long dress (dishdasha) it means he is from Oman (non-Omani's are forbidden from wearing the dishdasha).. I also learned that the dishdasha has a tassel on it to dip in perfume. If the person is in a place that does not smell that good they can just put the tassel up to their nose and they smell the perfume instead.

In Paris they wear the same things that we do except a season ahead.

In places like the United Arab Emirates you have to be covered in certain places like your legs and your shoulders have to be covered. In many places women should also cover their hair.

Many Muslim women wear a mask when they are out in public because they do not want men looking at their face or body. The only thing I can't figure out is -  how do they eat? They might get stuff on their dress trying to put food in their mouth.

I have learned a lot about clothing and how to do stuff like a local while traveling and I hope to learn more!
