Lunch in Oman

We stopped in Muscat Oman twice. On our first visit our tour guide recommended a restaurant, so on our next visit wt started off the day by walking into town and going to the Bait Al Luban restaurant.

We ordered and then they gave us frankincense water. It was yummy.
We started with Mubasalat, an Omani savory crepe mixed with spiced and sauteed chicken. and Sambusa, a filo pastry filled with spiced meat and served with sweet tomato and coriander relish.

Shaorbat Dijaj Ma Shofam is a traditional soup of tender chicken and oats cooked in a cardamom infused broth. It was amazing and my Dad even asked the chef how it was made so we can try to make it at home. We also had this really good bread called Mandazi which is a fried sweet bread.

For our main course we had Shuwa which is a classic Omani celebration dish, made with marinated meat roasted in an underground fire pit for over 6 hours and served with steamed rice and a lemon garlic sauce and Muqalai Dijaj, a traditionally spiced Omani chicken pan fried and served with vegetables and rice.

We had to try Qabouli  laham because it was described as the undisputed Omani favorite. It is a traditional rice dish cooked in a meat broth with special spices.

For dessert I had Kahaliab which are Omani pancakes served with fresh strawberries and a custard infused with lemon and orange zest. We also had Omani Delight, a selection of different Omani treats: Halwa, Qashat, Mahoo and Madlouka. They also served fresh figs.

Note the descriptions above are from the restaurant's menu because I thought they did a wonderful job describing them
