It was really hard this trip because we started in Singapore, India, and the United Arab Emirates and it was really hot there. We ended the trip in London, which was very cold. Se we knew we needed to pack layers.
The second thing that we do is look up what the customs are in the places we are visiting, like can you leave your shoulders open or you have to keep your ankles covered. For this trip we needed long pants and shirts with long sleeves. We also needed scarves to cover our hair.
When we looked up the customs, I found out some other interesting facts: If you give somebody a thumbs up in Greece it does not mean the same thing. It is the equivalent of the middle finger. Also if you show the soles of your shoes it is consider very rude in Sri Lanka. In Japan if you laugh with your mouth open it is considered horse like behavior.
Anyway, the thing that is always in important is to pack a lot less clothes than you want to bring. So that when you are traveling you can buy some. Okay this is where we get very serious. You always have to pack more underwear than you need. Now I'm not talking about crazy amounts more but like 2 or 3 more. We try to pack about 10 days worth of clothes and plan on doing laundry once a week.
